DIY : Eucalyptus Vapour Rub

A stuffed nose, throat that feels like a million knives are stabbing it, blankets on then off then on again. You know what I’m talking about, the dreaded head cold. It’s around us everywhere we go. Cold and flu season is just an unfortunate part of life. Taking steps to avoid it is obviously the goal, but sometimes you get hit regardless of getting enough sleep and sanitizing your hands every 3 minutes, it’s the sad truth.

Peppermint and eucalyptus as a combo will open your airways allowing you to get to sleep faster at night. Eucalyptus is your go to when sick because it is antibacterial meaning it doesn’t just help you breathe easier, it fights the cold virus at the same time.

You probably won’t feel like exerting energy in the middle of your illness so creating your remedies before you get run down and storing them in a cool dry place will be something you praise yourself for later. Or let’s hope you don’t fall victim to this flu season… you’ll have a little gift to give to a friend should they need it. Nothing shows love like a care package of tea and homemade treats when someone feels awful!

Make an easy at home vapour rub for your chest (just not directly under your nose) that, unlike drugstore brands, doesn’t have nasty petroleum in it… SCORE.

Combine these ingredients in a small canning jar:

15 drops of Eucalyptus Oil

15 drops of Peppermint Oil

½ cup of coconut oil

4 teaspoons of grated beeswax (optional) – if you want it to be more salve-like.

Rub a layer of this mixture on your chest and temples for instant relief, and if you’re considering binge watching all seasons of Sex and The City for the 5th time in your life, the answer is always GO FOR IT. It’ll make you feel better too. Promise.

I am a lover of nature, travel, fashion, and art. I'm always up for an adventure/good time and living in Victoria makes that really easy- be it beautiful forests, beaches, or brunches, count me in. I like making people laugh, and I always have my nails painted. I want my life to always smell good... who doesn't? My favourite essential oil is a tie between lemongrass and eucalyptus because they're both uplifting and calming, just like the friends I surround myself with.
